LUFC Kilkenny to miss most of January

Neil Kilkenny will miss most of January after being included in the 23 man squad named by Australia for the Asia Cup in Qatar.

The competition runs from January 7th - January 29th, meaning Kilkenny could face the possibility of missing four games.

Kilkenny will only actually miss two league games due to the FA Cup during the month.

Kilkenny will be slightly disappointed, as he will now miss the chance to face his first club Arsenal in the FA Cup third round on January 8th.

The last time Kilkenny represented Australia was in 2008 when he represented his country in the Beijing Olympics.

It will give some of the others a chance to stake a claim for a regular first team place. I am sure some won't be too disappointed he's missing.

Hopefully someone will step up to the mark and make it difficult for him to regain his place on his return

I think he will be missed. Hopefully someone takes the chance.

I take it he will miss Cardiff and Scunthorpe. It will be intereesting to see who gets the nod with him away and Johnson presumably gone pretty soon. I would think Sam and Watt will be keen to stake their claims.

Erni - what are you talking about?!!? They are wingers and he is a holding central midfielder? Kilkenny will be missed - since he came back into the side we have kept the ball better, played the ball on the ground, oh and not lost. Yesterday against Portsmouth we were far too one dimensional at time, playing awful long balls and giving the ball away cheaply. Mark my words - if johnson and Kilkenny aren't in the side we will struggle (unless we buy) - there isn't the ready made replacement in the current squad.

He's played well recently and deserves some recognition.
