LUFC Grayson - Schmeichel could have seen red

Leeds United boss Simon Grayson admitted that goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel could have quite easily have been given a red card in the 2-2 draw at Leicester City.

Schmeichel brought down Leicester striker Darius Vassell to give away a penalty late on with the former England striker through on goal, Leicester players and fans were baying for a red card as the keeper looked to be the last man.

Referee Tony Bates only produced a yellow card to the annoyance of the Leicester players and fans.

Grayson speaking on Yorkshire Radio said, "He could have quite easily have sent him off. These decisions are there to be made. Fortunately for us he hasn`t sent him off, another referee might have sent him off."

Bates might have based his decision on the fact that both Andy O`Brien and Neil Collins had got back in behind Schmeichel to cover the keeper.

He might also have based his decision on the fact that Vassell still as the touch of a baby elephant and can`t hit a barn door from three yards.

Having seen it on the TV I think the referee made the right decision. As he did earlier in the season the referee seemed to bottle most of the big decisions.

Referees like leopards dont change their spots. This guy will never make big decisions but for once it benefitted us. Kasper could have let Vassel go as he wouldnt have scored.

Vassell was never going to get to the ball and was clearly looking for a penalty.
