LUFC McCormack hat trick in reserves victory

Ross McCormack scored a hat trick and Billy Paynter also found the net as the reserves beat Hull City 6-3 at Elland Road.

Leeds took the lead in the fifth minute when Billy Paynter applied the finish after good work from Sanchez Watt.

Paynter was close to making it 2-0 soon afterwards but his goal was ruled out for offside after a clever chip from Adam Clayton.

Hull made it 1-1 after Jamie Devitt intercepted a sloppy ball by Leigh Bromby for an easy finish.

The goal lifted the visitors and after more poor defending, Jason Crowe cleared off the line after a mix up from a corner, the ball eventually falling to an Hull player who missed an open goal.

Lloyd Sam soon restored Leeds lead when he managed to get to the ball ahead of the Hull keeper and slot the ball into the net.

Andy Robinson made it 3-1 with a good finish after a good ball by Clayton.

Andy Robinson was soon in the action again, after giving the ball away he brought down a Hull forward in the area to concede a penalty.

Devitt made no mistake from the spot to make it 3-2.

Leeds soon restored their two-goal lead when Ross McCormack tapped in following a ball from Watt to end an amazing first half.

McCormack made it 5-2 when he gave the Hull keeper no chance with a free kick from distance after a foul on Paynter.

Devitt completed his hat trick for Hull from a free kick on the edge of the area after a mistake from Naylor that led to the free kick.

McCormack almost completed his hat trick for Leeds when his shot came back off the inside of the post.

McCormack did complete his hat trick when he beat the last defender after a great touch to score, after a good ball from Parker.

A good run out for a number of players and great that McCormack (hat trick) and Billy Paynter have all found the net.

I wonder if this will make Grayson change his tactics for the weekend. Will he want to play Becchio and McCormack upfront together.

You know he won't Daz, we'll play 4-5-1

One thing he showed was that he is comfortable getting long balls with his back to goal and holding them. The third goal he used his bulk to keep the defender behind him for a long ball from Ben Parker, controlled the ball on his thigh and turned the defender in one move and smacked it in. This was minutes after he had run onto a long ball and hit the inside of the post with a strong shot.

Lets get him fully fit and he could make a big inpact after christmas.
