'If It's Football, It's Vital'

LUFC Fans view v Bristol City

Tiny T gives us his usual take on the game at Elland Road, this time after the important 3-1 win over Bristol City.

Schmeichel 8
No chance with the goal, yet again. Great save towards the end.

Connolly 8
Defended well and got forward in support, couldn't ask for much more.

O'Brien 8
Dealt with the Bristol attack with ease looks/plays like a class act, sign him permanently.

Bruce 8
Another good performance, settling in well alongside O'Brien, good pairing, let`s keep them together.

McCartney 7
Stumble lead to the equaliser, got forward well, the best crossing from the left came from him.

Snodgrass 7
Made inroads down the right and got better as the game went on, good cross for the opener.

Howson 9 Star man
Always on the front foot, chased down lost causes putting the opposition under pressure. Cute back heel to set up Somma that James had to produce a great save to keep out. Howson was one of the main reasons why we won.

Johnson 8
Played the unusual role of the holding midfielder and did it well; got forward well and broke up play.

Kilkenny 7
Played further forward, never seen him over the half way line as much. Was that a red poppy on his shirt or blood from a nosebleed? His best performance for me this season.

Gradel 7
In and out of the game seems to have lost a little of his pace.

Somma 4
A couple of decent efforts, but cannot play the lone role up front, needs to put himself about more and challenge when the ball is in the air.

Substitutes

Becchio 9

He turned the game on its head, literally. A superb 20-minute hat trick from him. Showed how the lone striker should play.

Sam 7
The double substitution changed the game and Sam played his part to the full.

Paynter
Not on long enough to give an opinion

Summary

Inspired substitution by Grayson and both were needed to give some bite up front.
The defence looks solid and well organised with O'Brien`s influence.

The midfield had presence and moved the ball quickly, Howson revelled playing in behind and chased lost causes.
Becchio shows what a good striker he his at this level and appears to have settled well to Championship football.

Three points a good size crowd and into the top six, it must be Christmas.

Footnote
Uncle Ken and Grayson, if you need any more nudges, get the contract out for Luciano quick and get him signed up. You can also include agreeing a fee for O'Brien as well.

I think Tiny is absolutely spot on, I think I would have scored them the same. I said to someone on the way home that Howson just gets better, he is the driving force in the side at the moment. I would have given man of the match to Becchio though (but only just). As much as we dominated the game we was never going to score with Somma up front playing the loan role. I have to laugh to myslef about the Grayson inspired substitutions. When I saw Sam and Becchio coming on I called the substitutions, it was like for like, nothing different. At the time I was going mad and slating the boss. It just goes to show thats why I am not the manager. If it hadn't come off however I think we would have been seeing some very interesting comments. I am so glad to see you scored Kilkenny a 7, after all the stick he's gotten recently I thought he had a great game (probably because he didn't have a tackle to make). We had four decent chances in the first half and they all involved balls played by Kilkenny. I think we will have to get used to Gradel only playing for an hour and not having the explosive pace he had last season. I thought in the first twenty minutes yesterday he was all over the pitch which must eventually take it out on him. Couldn't agree more regarding the contracts, need to sort out Becchio before the vultures can pounce in January, surely we must have learn't from the Beckford saga! O'Brien must sign in January and I would like to see McCartney stay for the rest of the season. Some important players are now nearing full fitness, Sam, Watt, Paynter and Parker are all going to add something when they get there chance. We haven't played well so far this season (except the odd game) and we are in the play off places). If we can get the goals against sorted out then QPR better be looking over their shoulder.

Must agree, I would have marked the players about the same.
