LUFC Schmeichel inspires England shot stopper

New England number one goalkeeper Joe Hart says he owes his crucial saves to deny Bulgaria on Friday night to Leeds United goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The young goalkeeper as been in terrific form for his club side Manchester City this season and he carried it into England`s crucial opening European 2012 qualifying game at Wembley.

Hart pulled off three terrific saves to deny the Bulgarians when they game was delicately poised at 1-0 to England. Speaking after the game, which England went on to win 4-0, Hart said: 'I try to stand big. I've stolen [the technique] from Kasper Schmeichel, who I worked with for a bit - and it's working for now. Luckily [the ball] hit me.'

The two 23 year olds spent time together at Manchester City early in their careers and both now look to be enjoying some of their best football.

Hart is currently keeping out Eire international goalkeeper Shay Given out of the Manchester City side whilst Schmeichel has started the season in fine style at Elland Road, he`s quickly becoming a firm fans favourite and is currently short listed for the npower Championship player of the month.

He's played for Denmark all the way up to under 21 level but I am sure he could still be eligable for England as he must have lived here nearly 20 years. If I was Capello I would have him with Hart in the squad.

i think hes come out before saying he'll only ever play for denmark
ruffcider
has said previously thasat he is only interested in Denmark as an international player (his mother is a brazillian or argie I think and he wont even look at that)
