LUFC Fans view v Millwall

LUFC Fans view v Millwall

This week it`s my turn (Dazza71) in the hot seat to give my fans view and the player ratings.

On the day of my birthday, Leeds put in a champagne performance to totally outplay previously unbeaten Millwall at Elland Road.

Schmeichel 7
Couldn`t do anything with the goal and had very little to do for most of the game. The one save he really had to produce was a fantastic reaction save to stop Millwall equalising soon after Leeds had taken the lead.

Connolly 7
Another one who had a relatively quiet afternoon. Never looked under pressure in defence and had plenty of opportunity to help in attack.

Collins 7
Another solid afternoon in the centre of defence for Collins, thank god he`s been the rock in the centre.

Naylor 3
On an afternoon when Leeds totally dominated, Naylor continues to make defending look hard. Always seems to be out of position and nowhere near the attacker when the ball comes into the box.
Even easy balls to his teammates he somehow managed to 'hoof` the ball into the East Stand.
Another own goal, similar to the two he scored towards the end of last season. Read in the programme he doesn`t read Leeds forums, probably a good job because I doubt any have had a decent word to say about him since the start of last season.
He would have probably scored one point if not for one decent block towards the end of the game when it was 2-1.

Bessone 4 (replaced 74)
I hope Ben Parker can get fit soon or bring back Andy Hughes. I have not been impressed with Bessone in three starts this season. Always leaves his man free at the back post, if the ball finds them then we will be in trouble.
Was easily out muscled by Morison, which led to the cross for Millwall`s goal.
When he helps out going forward he generally finds touch rather than putting a decent ball into the middle.
Johnson replaced him at left back when he was substituted and did amuch better job.

Kilkenny 7
Him and Howson totally dominated in midfield and he actually put in a few tackles and came away with the ball.

Howson 8 Man of the match
He looks like the player who is going to do the holding role this season. Breaks up play and starts Leeds off again. He broke up play in the dying seconds and his long ball (similar to the one for Beckford at the land of Scum in January) sent Somma away to wrap up the points for Leeds

Sam 8 (replaced 90)
Took time to get going today but was usually at the centre of most of Leeds dangerous work.
Looks like being one of the best signings of the summer with his third goal in four games. He was unlucky not to get a second late on when his header came back off the post.

Watt 8
Frightened the life out of the Millwall defence all afternoon. Could quite easily have scored two or three and at times showed unbelievable skill with his fast footwork.

Becchio 7
As usual worked his socks off for the team and put himself about. His biggest improvement today was he stayed on his feet rather than throwing himself to the ground.
Could have scored in the first half but a last ditch block saw the ball go over the bar, the referee somehow awarded a goal kick.

Johnson 7
Probably the quietest of the midfielders but still put in a good shift. Filled in at left back when Bessone went off and did a good job.

Somma 8 (74 replaced Bessone)

Have we found the replacement for Beckford?
Never actually had many touches but took both his goals well. Made the first look easy when having not scored for the club could have quite easily have panicked. His second goal was pure quality, one touch to give him some room and drilled the ball past the Millwall defender and goalkeeper.
His confidence must be sky high after this and I really hope he gets 90 minutes against Leicester on Tuesday.

Hughes (replaced Sam 90)
Didn`t have time to anything other than clap the fans at the end.

Manager - Grayson 8
Looks like he`s settling with a 4-4-2 formation after the second half performance against Forest and today`s against Millwall.

Usually Millwall don`t give us any time on the ball, especially in midfield but today it was Leeds who dominated in that area and some of the football at times was wonderful to watch.
Gave Somma his chance with 15 minutes remaining and changed the pattern of the game as it looked like heading for a draw.

Probably the best league performance at Elland Road since giving Tranmere Rovers a similar mauling on this very weekend last year.

Millwall came into the game on a high after their start to the season and seemed to have done their homework on us in the past few seasons but they were no match for Leeds today.

Now have the added bonus of Max Gradel coming back into the squad after his suspension finished today. We have so many options in an attacking sense and we are going to frighten defences to death this season with our pace.

Brilliant performance and thanks for a wonderful birthday present.
