LUFC Schmeichel - The fans have been awesome

New Leeds United goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has hailed the clubs fans as awesome since his arrival at the club.

Schmeichel was manager Simon Grayson`s first signing of the summer from Notts County and has been first choice in the opening games of the season ahead of Shane Higgs.

The 23 year old had the added pressure after joining the club of also being the son of former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel to contend with, but he`s quickly become a firm fans favourite with his outstanding performances in the Leeds goal.

Schmeichel produced a man of the match performance in Leeds opening league fixture against Derby County with a number of excellent saves.

Having won over the Elland Road faithful already he was quick to show his appreciation and acknowledge the fantastic support the club as.

Speaking on the Football League Website, Schmeichel said, "I settled in quickly thanks to everyone being really great to me, including the supporter`s who I think are awesome - there`s no other word to describe them.

"They packed Elland Road for the first match and then did the same in the visitors end at Nottingham Forest on Sunday - they were absolutely brilliant".

The goalkeeper will be hoping to help Leeds to their first three points of the season on Saturday when they come up against Millwall at Elland Road.

The London side, who also won promotion alongside Leeds last season, have been something of a 'bogey side` to Leeds in recent seasons and have started the Championship season in fine fashion winning their opening two games.
