LUFC Fans view v Derby County

Regular Vital Leeds contributor erni is filling in for Tiny T for this game and gives us his player ratings in the opening day defeat to Derby County.

Kasper Schmeichel 9 Man of the Match
Beaten at his near post for first goal by a fierce shot but otherwise faultless

Paul Connolly 6

Got forward well and was our best defender. Good engine.

Richard Naylor 3
Was shaky from the off and constantly under pressure and putting the rest of the team under pressure. Time to go.

Neil Collins 5
Constantly covering for Naylor, but often playing statues in the middle

Federico Bessone 3
Looks prepared to go forward but loses the ball too much and passing and defending awful.

Lloyd Sam 6
Looked good until the penalty and was always prepared to play himself out of trouble instead of hoofing the ball.

Kilkenny 4

Don`t really know what he was supposed to be doing. Totally ineffective in live play but decent dead ball delivery

Howson 6
Started brightly but lost the ball for their first goal, created our second but faded out in second half.

Bradley Johnson 6
Kept trying in the centre of midfield and was on hand to help in defence and willing to shoot. Passing not good.

Sanchez Watt 7
Worked hard especially first half and showed great skills in controlling instantly and intelligent passing. Faded in the second half.

Lucciano Becchio 6
Worked hard with little reward. Took his goal well but in truth was easily contained by Derby central defence. Too much diving still.

Cheers for those erni.

Howson faded 2nd half ?? - I'd forgotten that he played - and Becchio's pace was awful - he couldnt have caught a medicine ball yesterday - Grella had more impact in 4 minutes at end that rest of so called forward players had all 2nd half
simonfire1
I thought Becchio was shattered, he usually runs all day in any normal game, now he's expected to do it with no support. Whats the point of him winning flick ons if there is nobody behind him.
dazza71
Becchio looked very poor and falling over all the time doesn't cut it in this league. Get him off and Grella on. He looked sharp when on for LAST 4 MINUTES
Only-Sleggin
Didn't Grella in his four minutes give the ball away and then with a free kick deep into injury time not even get the ball off the ground?
king billy
At least he was on the ball and trying to do something positive rather than give up. His grass cutting free kick may have fooled the defenders who expected him to get the ball into the air, it didn't work lol
Only-Sleggin
Only saw thw 1st half which we looked ok, my daughters opinion was that we looked good going forwards but Naylor and Kilkenny couldn't tackle there way out of astring vest
Tiny T
I think (obviously the opposite to you guys) that Becchio did ok, he worked hard, tracked back and won some good tackles because of his work rate. Grella seemed to runa round like a headless chicken!! Our defence was appauling, Naylor looked terrible and far too slow for this league and Collins struggled along side him. Get well soon Paddy!! Connolly looked good though. White looked sharp when he came on too.
chuffinnora21
Don't pick on Becchio, he's one of our better players. It's time Grayson did something about our sloppy defending and put some bight into midfield - we've been like this since last January. How come everyone can see what's needed except the manager?
