LUFC Ankergren joins Poyet at Brighton

Casper Ankergren who was released by Leeds United at the end of last season as joined League One side Brighton and Hove Albion on the eve of the new season.

Ankergren joins up with his former Assistant Manager Gus Poyet who is now manager at Brighton on a two-year contract.

Leeds decided not to offer Ankergren a new deal after his contract ended last summer and he`s been looking for a new club during the summer.

The 30 year old enjoyed three years at Elland Road making over 100 appearances.

He played in Leeds fantastic FA Cup run during last season when they knocked out Manchester United and held Tottenham to a draw before losing the replay.

Ankergren kept a clean sheet at Old Trafford and then produced a man of the match display at Tottenham when his goal was under siege for the opening twenty minutes.

This was capped off when he saved a Jermain Defoe penalty as Leeds battled to a 2-2 draw.

Ankergren will go straight in the Brighton squad for their opening game of the season at Swindon tomorrow, he could line up against some familiar faces from his days at Elland Road, with David Lucas, Jonathan Douglas and David Prutton all with the Wiltshire club.

I wish him all the best at Brighton. He had his faults but on his day he was as good as anyone. Despite losing the Play off final in 2008 if not for him it could have been 3 or 4 in the first twenty minutes. He also produced those fantastic performances in the cup last year. I hope he does well at Brighton. I wish him and Gus all the best.

I really fancy Brighton to do well this season, I think Southampton will be the team to beat but I think at around 14/1 they are a decent bet. Good luck Casper.
