LUFC Leeds finish off pre season in style

Leeds United finished off their pre season campaign with a comprehensive 3-1 victory over Premiership side Wolverhampton Wanderers at Elland Road.

Leeds included six of the clubs seven summer signings with Alex Bruce who had only arrived at the club on Friday coming off the bench.

Still out were the injured duo Robert Snodgrass and Billy Paynter who have both picked up injuries during pre season.

Leeds thoroughly deserved the win against their Premiership opponents with Max Gradel and Lloyd Sam being a constant thorn in the sides of the Wolves defenders.

Max Gradel opened the scoring for Leeds just past the half hour with a 25-yard effort that gave Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey no chance

Wolves equalised on the stroke of half time when Matt Jarvis whipped in a free kick that eluded everyone and found its way into the back of the net.

Leeds would have felt hard done by to be going in at half time all square after dominating for long periods.

The equaliser only seemed to galvanise Leeds in the second half and they was quickly back in front after the break.

Max Gradel once again got to the bye line and his pull back was met by Lloyd Sam on the edge of the six-yard box who coolly slotted home.

Leeds wrapped up a deserved win with just five minutes remaining when Bradley Johnson headed past Hennessey.

A thoroughly deserved win that could have been by a much bigger margin, will give the side plenty of confidence as they now prepare for the first game of the Championship season against Derby next Saturday.

That's more like it my previous worries after the 4-0 defeat are gradually fading away. Now press on with a good start to the season.

It was a really encouraging performance much like the game against Blackburn last year. The attack and midfield was much more solid with Gradel and Sam giving us width and Johnson strength and power (plus a few shots on goal). Central defence looked really short of pace though and at least one central defender with pace is needed. Both new FBs looked to be settling in and willing to attack although Bessone was a bit slack in defence a couple of times which could have been punished.

With Gradel missing next week and the likelyhood that Snodders and Paynter will still be missing what does Grayson do in an attacking sense?

I am definitely concerned about naylors injury - sadly it seems he will be fit for Derby - where are these niggling injuries when you need em !!!

Naylor should hopefully not be fit, could start Bruce alongside Collins
