LUFC Leeds rubbish Becchio rumours

Leeds United chief executive Shaun Harvey has been quick to deny rumours that the club will not be offering striker Luciano Becchio a new contract when his current deal runs out.

Becchio joined Leeds in the summer of 2008 after a successful trial with the club and signed a three-year deal that runs out at the end of this season.

Speaking on the official website, Harvey said, "The story is completely untrue. We`re committed to keeping him at Elland Road."

The Argentinian as been a regular in the starting line up for the whites in his two seasons at the club and he has scored 36 goals in the process.

Harvey as indicated that the club will sit down with Becchio once the season as started and the transfer window as closed and sort out a new deal.

The 26 year old is hugely popular with the fans for his hand working displays in the Leeds attack.

With the departure of Beckford in the summer, fans will be hoping that Becchio can break the 20-goal mark in the following season having gone close in his two previous.

Becchio as already got on the goal trail in pre season and as scored four goals in Leeds last two friendly games.

Lets hope we don't allow it to go down the same route as last season did with Beckford. Get him signed up now, its not the fact he's scored nearly twenty goals each season its the fact he works so hard in attack and helping out the midfield. I personally think he's one of our best ever foreign signings in the clubs history, especailly when you think he cost us nothing.

How can we have let him get within 12 months of going on a free?? - his quality was clear ages ago

So true I was saying something similar yesterday...Get him into the Office and have a decent! Contract ready! That he cant refuse... We dont want to go down the same road! As Leeds did with Beckford...

One we cannot afford to lose, a revelation since Macca signed him on half a game in pre season. Will cause problems for the opposition again this season
