LUFC Review of the season - March

We now move into the month of March with Leeds so called 'blip` showing no signs of ending.

An important month lies ahead with Leeds facing three clubs all hoping to be in the automatic or play off spots at the end of the season.

Luciano Becchio continues Leeds great record this season in the Fans PFA player of the month awards as he picks up the gong for February.

January is the only month so far this season that a Leeds player hasn`t picked up the award.

Leeds complete the signing of veteran striker Paul Dickov on a short-term deal.

Young defender Andrew Milne joins Darlington on loan until the end of the season.

Leeds once again drop points at home in League One, a late strike from Jermaine Beckford rescues a point in a 1-1 draw with Brentford.

Leeds are quickly back in league action and at last show signs of their early season form in a comprehensive 4-1 victory at Tranmere Rovers.

Jermaine Beckford scores two and a goal apiece from Robert Snodgrass and Luciano Becchio give fans the hope that the 'blip` is finally over.

Unfortunately Leeds poor form quickly returns as they put in a very disappointing performance in the 1-0 defeat at Southampton.

Striker Jermaine Beckford picks up the FourFourTwo League One player of the year award.

Beckford is ranked as the third best player in the Football League overall and is the highest ranked player in League One.

Shane Higgs finally returns from the thigh injury that`s kept him on the sidelines since October, he plays in the reserves 5-0 victory over Lincoln City. Max Gradel scores a hat trick in the game as the reserve team make a late push to retain the title they won the previous season.

Millwall claim all three points at Elland Road 2-0, in a crucial six pointer.

The night is made even worse by the early injury to influential defender Patrick Kisnorbo that sees him leave the field on a stretcher.

Things are made even worse when it is confirmed that Paddy has suffered an Achilles injury that rules him out of the rest of the season and he will also miss the World Cup for Australia in the summer.

Young striker Davide Somma extends his loan spell at Lincoln City until the end of the season after scoring five goals in five games for the Imps.

With the injury to Kisnorbo, Leeds move into the loan market, bringing Neil Collins in from Preston North End until the end of the season.

Midfielder Andy Robinson joins Tranmere Rovers on loan until the end of the season.

Leeds bring in a midfielder, when youngster Sanchez Watt joins from Arsenal for the remainder of the season.

Shane Higgs makes his return to the first team in the top of the table clash at Norwich City.

A much-improved Leeds performance is undone in the final minute when Chris Martin scores the only goal of the game for the visitors.

The defeat is made worse by an horrific injury to Luciano Becchio early on in the game, when he swallowed his tongue.

To make matters even worse Tresor Kandol is sent off only twenty seconds after entering the pitch as a substitute in the final moments.

The result sees Leeds clinging on to second place in the table, with three teams all within three points of the whites.

Next week we look back at April when the month starts badly but by the end of the month Leeds are back in control of their own destiny.
