LUFC Naylor to continue as club captain

Leeds United boss Simon Grayson has confirmed that current club captain Richard Naylor will continue the duties in the 2010/11 season.

Naylor, who spent a large part of last season on the treatment table, is still sidelined with the hamstring injury that forced him to miss the final day of the season against Bristol Rovers.

The 33 year old took over the captains armband shortly after joining the club in January 2009 and Grayson is happy that he is continue in the role.

Speaking in the YEP, Grayson said, Richard will be club captain next season, there is no doubt about that.

'He contributes so much on and off the pitch, which is why we signed him.

'If he is in the team, he will be captain again on the field, but there are other candidates if he is not fit.'

Naylor managed only 32 appearances in all competitions last season out of the 60 games the club played, Jon Howson was his regular deputy whilst out injured.

Naylor hasn`t travelled with the current squad for the two game pre season tour of Slovakia as he continues his rehabilitation from his hamstring injury.

Grayson did say that he expected his captain to be back in full training soon and hopefully be ready for the pre season friendlies with Bury and Hartlepool later in the month.

I thought he was shocking last season and got worse as it went on. Maybe he looked much better than he actually was when he first joined the club because at the time we was woeful at the back. I actually think Sam Sodje made him look better than he was. Last season, Paddy carried him until his injury and then he really got exposed. I hope we are going to bring in another defender.

Club Captain doesn't mean Team captain I hope, as they can be different

I hope your right Tiny, he will do much better from the sidelines.

Would love to see him train with van bommell - its worth the risk of him (hopefully) getting his shins shattered into a million tiny fragments meaning larry will have to bring in someone else as cover !
