'If It's Football, It's Vital'

LUFC Collins almost joined last summer

Neil Collins was delighted to finally put pen to paper at Elland Road on Wednesday and said it almost happened a year earlier.

The 26 year old admits though it was always meant to be that he would finally end up joined Leeds despite opting to join Preston last summer.

Speaking in the YEP, Collins said, 'Last summer, I knew it was between Leeds and Preston and it wasn't to be at Leeds, they just couldn't afford what Wolves were asking for and I went to Preston.
'Obviously, I was keen to come permanently to Leeds. The club were on a high last season; the last game of the season in particular.

'Thankfully, it turned out I was meant to come back here and I'm just so pleased.'

Collins signed for Leeds in a three-year deal after enjoying a successful loan spell at Elland Road at the end of last season.

He featured in the final nine games of the season as the club clinched promotion on the final day with a nail biting 2-1 win over Bristol Rovers at Elland Road.

Surprise surprise, another player whose wages we couldn't match when another club became interested. It sounds like a reoccuring record.

LAST season we couldnt afford him ... THIS season we dont really need him!!

He was solid enough for us at the end of last season but I do think there were better players available.

So how come we can afford him now, Uncle Ken unleashed the purse strings ???

I bet we aren't paying £600,000 for him now like they wanted last season, probably less than half of that.
