LUFC Doyle impressed with Schmeichel signing

Mike Doyle who enjoyed a season long loan with Leeds last season thinks the signing of goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel could be a real coup and describes him as 'different class`.

Doyle as experienced Schmeichel first hand after the young Dane spent a spell on loan at the Ricoh Arena towards the end of the 2007/08 season when the Sky Blues were fighting against relegation.

Schmeichel played the last nine games of the season, with the side losing just three of games and avoiding relegation by one point.

Speaking in the YEP, Doyle said, 'He came on loan from Manchester City so you expected good things of him but he was brilliant at a time when we needed him to be brilliant.

'That was the season when we came within a point of getting relegated and he played a big part in keeping us up.

'No doubt Kasper has improved in the last couple of years but he was different class when I played alongside him.'

Leeds recently signed the 23-year-old shot stopper on a free transfer after he was released by League Two champions Notts County after recording 24 clean sheets during the season.

Doyle played 52 games for the Whites last season and helped United back into the Championship.

The Eire international looked to be on his way out of Coventry but after the recent sacking of manager Chris Coleman he is now unsure of his immediate future with the club.

I think Kasper could be a great signing but does anyone know why he only signed for 2 years ??? One good season and he will be in his last year and open to all sorts of offers.

I think they had to do it to make it easier for the dimwitted defenders we have at the club!!

erni - I think they have probably got an option to extend the deal if Leeds reach the Premiership. Schmeichel probably didn't want to commit himslef long term if the club were to be just scratching around in the Championship/

Excellent signing. Kasper has bright future ahead of him. Just hope he can experience it all at Leeds!

I think hes an awesome signing and made even better by the fact it was on a free.
