LUFC Paynter to sign in three year deal

Leeds United will complete the signing of Swindon Town striker Billy Paynter in a three year deal on July 1st.

The 26 year old has agreed the deal and he will join Leeds on a free transfer at the end of his contract at Swindon Town.

Leeds United boss Simon Grayson speaking on the official website said, "He proved his worth last season. He has matured as a player over the last couple of years and he had a fantastic season last season".

Paynter scored 29 goals in all competitions last season, including four against Leeds as he helped the Wiltshire club to the League One play off final.

The capture of Paynter is the clubs second signing following the arrival of Kasper Schmeichel last week as they build towards the Championship next season.

I thought he looked really good against us on the two occasions we met last season. I like a striker who is strong and good in the air and he fulfils both those requirements. Two signings made, keep them coming. He played really well alongside Charlie Austin last season, can we have him as well.

As well ?? - Can't we just have Austin instead ?? ... Paynter had his first good season last year - He's never got near last years form previously and risking our arm on him in Championship (where Defenders have pace on him at most teams) is a big gamble - Hope he proves me wrong

Good luck Billy - just leave Charlie where he is thankyou......

Cracking season for us but Leeds is big move with bigger expectations. My gut feeling is that he'll flop but I do hope he does well. So long BP!

i hope he will produce last seasons form for us. but his record aint that pretty 280 starts and only 88 goals... but if he is fed well and holds the ball up well then bechio and paynter should fair ok together

Lets hope that unlike alot of the Strikers we have signed over the years who turned out as flops for us he doesn't. How does he get a 3 year deal and Casper Schmiechel only a 2 a little unfair to me.

Got to be good business for free and lets hope he works out on the bigger club and doesnt get stage fright. Like a few others he wasnt my first choice but lets hope there may be another surprise up SG's sleeve.

Great signing, Paynter will score bags of goals.
theguru
Risky signing but you've not paid anything for him!

I cannot understand all the negative vibes after signing this lad. He's still only 26 not even reached his prime yet and as just scored 29 goals in the season (four against us) and we have got him on a free. Lets judge him this time next year.
King Billy
Nice to get him on a free, I have to retract my previous rant of never getting a good free player, Still out on that one I'll wait until later in the season to finalise my verdict but things look good. It's a pity we didn't get Austin.
Only-Sleggin
Another good (and free!) signing but he ISN'T a replacement for Beckford. More of a Becchio type and will keep Luci on his toes to keep his place in our side. I'm sure Simon Grayson will sign another forward soon, and maybe even pay money for him!
Rotherham White
We need another 2 unless Somma is the other
Tiny T
Good signing in my opinion, but i would like to see Billy Sharp or Gary Hooper playing alongside him. I don't mind signing good "Free's" but we need to spend some big cash on a quality striker. Also wouldn't mind signing Rickie Lambert but I doubt Southampton would sell him to us.
Cflo
We should have gone for Ricky Lambert last summer, we missed out on a cracking signing then. We would have won the league by a country mile if he'd signed. Can't see us getting a sniff now.
