LUFC Beckford signs for Toffees

Premiership side Everton have signed former Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford in a four year deal.

The 26 year old was out of contract at Elland Road at the end of June and was released by Leeds at the end of last week to allow him to sort out a deal with a new club.

The transfer to Everton finally brings to an end a saga that has been running since last summer when he turned down a new deal with Leeds.

Despite the step up from League One to the Premiership Beckford knows it`s going to be a tough test for him, speaking on Everton`s official website, he said, "I`m excited by it, it`s going to be a test, I know that, but I am looking forward to it. I want to test myself at the highest level."

Beckford scored 85 goals for Leeds in three seasons and was the man who scored the crucial winning goal against Bristol Rovers to send Leeds back up into the Championship.

The former Wealdstone striker also famously scored the only goal of the game in Leeds historic win at Manchester United in January to catapult him into the national spotlight.

Now we will see just how he does in the Premiership (not that I take much interest in it). I can't see him lasting two minutes against some of the more experienced central defenders and I can't see him being given much time at Everton by the fans or the manager who has made a habit of buying big named strikers and not long after they are benched.

All the best, now we'll see if he can cut the mustard at the top

Time will tell but I wish him well and think Moyes will ease him in rather than throwing him in the deep end. Expect sub appearances to start with.

Good luck to him, hes done well for us for three years.
