LUFC Leeds announce released list

Leeds United have announced their released and retained list after the conclusion of the 2009/10 season.

They will not be offering new contracts to experienced goalkeeper Casper Ankergren and defender Rui Marques and youngster Andrew Milne.

Ankergren has been at Elland Road since 2007 when he initially joined on loan. He went on to make 138 appearances for the club and made 35 appearances this season as understudy to Shane Higgs.

Marques joined Leeds during the 2005/06 season and went on to make almost 100 appearances for the club.

He started the season as the regular full back alongside Patrick Kisnorbo but suffered an injury whilst on international duty and failed to win his place back in the side again during the season.

19-year-old Milne came through the Leeds Academy system but failed to break into the Leeds first team and spent two separate spells on loan at Darlington this season.

Fellow out of contract players Andy Hughes and Jermaine Beckford have been offered new contracts by the club and are awaiting to hear from the players and their agents.

Its as I expected, didn't expect Rui or Casper to get offered new contracts and I thought Hughes might earn one. We can forget Beckford signing if all we have done is leave last summers offer on the table.

Poor ole Casper. Served us well despite being constantly replaced by keepers no better than him. Thanks for keepin the scum out

Casper deserved better treatment than this - he's good when he'e fighting for his place and since Higgs turned up he has definately been sharper - Good luck Fella

All the best to both Rui and Casper, but how on earth does Headless Hughes earn a new deal, he might give 110% but he's worse than useless

You have to feel for casper but also be realistic and start to build a base for the CCC (orwhatever it will be called). Casper had many good games (and a few great ones) but too many bad ones to be trusted at No1. Good luck to him. Think Rui should have been given a chance when the defence was falling apart 2010 but is obviously not on Larrys favourite list.

NO complaints. Rui and Casper have been good servnts of the club and good luck to them. At least it frees up the salary bill. There's an estimated £3m in Football League money for being in the CCC, plus greater advertising/TV revenue. Leeds will have no problem attracting top talent (CCC level), as long as we're paying comparable wages to the other top sides in the CCC... so who would we like? - Lambert would be great, Montgomery, if he'll leave the Blades...
