LUFC Beckford puts in transfer request

Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford has put in a transfer request to the club according to his agent Nick Rubery on Radio 5 live.

Beckford is out of contract in the summer and he has continued to be linked with a number of clubs with Championship side Newcastle United leading the chase for his signature.

The North East club are rumoured to have improved their offer to Leeds to £1.5 million today after seeing bids of £1 million and £1.25 million turned down.

The 26 year old turned down the offer of a new contract at Elland Road last summer and he was instantly placed on the transfer list by the club.

This was retracted soon afterwards and boss Simon Grayson stated that the star striker would be going nowhere until the end of the season.

Beckford`s appeal to clubs has continued to grow with him continuing to find the back of the net this season.

On Sunday he came to the attention of the nation when he scored the only goal in Leeds 1-0 shock FA Cup win at Manchester United.

That goal took his tally for the season to 20 already, and it`s the third season in a row he`s reach the milestone for Leeds.

I think he will be gone before the end of this week. From such an high at the weekend he certainly knows how to bring everyone back down to earth. I blame his agent, started the week saying he was desperate to stay at Leeds and now says he wants to leave. Football agents are the worst thing to happen in football.
After scum, i honestly thought he'd stay. To be honest, the only reason i care, is because i think it might affect the team. Hopefully not but otherwise i couldn't care. Good riddance.
I've heard he's Posh bound we can but dream!
No surprise there its been on the cards for weeks.. Im sure Grayson wont let anything happen until there is a replacement lined up first..Be a loss but dont want him here if he is not happy at leeds just proves he is moving for money reasons and not for football good luck Beckford i also blame Bates for allowing it to get this far never gave him what he wanted so i suppose you cant blame him to move on...Be interesting to see who we bring in/ I agree with Dazza can see Beckford gone by end off week !!!!
Poshpete: The closest he's going to get to Posh is if he buys a spice Girls album
You're Leeds United, you should be able replace him easily. Beckford has next to no experience above the 3rd tier. He wants to be in the Premiership ASAP and even if/whe Leeds go up - he still has a year to sulk (but be very good at scoring goals!).
good luck & goodbye, time to move on!
Good luck to Beckford; he's 26, so the clock is ticking for a Premier League future, but make no mistake, he's no Premier League player... yet. Bates cannot be blamed. There is a salary structure and we wouldn't be talking about Beckford (or Leeds) at all without Bates. If he doesn't want to be at Leeds, let him go!
Great points AW, never want to go down that road again.
Can't really blame him I suppose. But it would have been nice if he'd stopped and helped you to promotion
I'll believe when it happens. And not until. SG's got it covered anyway.

If he goes, good luck to him, his goals took us close the last 2 seasons, only problem were do we find a 25-30 goal a season striker, we've not got one at the Club

There are a few things in what we look at. Loyalty. Football doesn't work on that any more. Wage structure. There’s too many teams going down the pan & we have had two lucky escapes, don’t want to go there again. Happiness. Players have to enjoy playing for the club to get 100% out of them. The shirt. The shirt means everything to the fans & if the player doesn’t want to wear it then the best options is for them to go. The player. Footballers have a short career span & they must utilise this to their best ability. With Beckford 26 he must consider this. The Club. All clubs must work on their own best interest & Leeds are no exception. The FANS. These are the infrastructure of any club & while I was at the Hartlepool game one fan was on Beckford’s back all the time & in one instance Beckford gave him the Finger which the fan deserved, so even one Fan can sway player’s minds. But the main thing is we all M O T.

Four years ago he was working for the RAC, Probably got another four years with the possibilty of playing at the top. I can't balme him for wanting to go to a club who are either already in or looking certain to be in the Premiership next year.
dazza71 has Beckford himself saying that he is going to Newcastle for £2m
