LUFC Beckford puts in transfer request

Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford has put in a transfer request to the club according to his agent Nick Rubery on Radio 5 live.

Beckford is out of contract in the summer and he has continued to be linked with a number of clubs with Championship side Newcastle United leading the chase for his signature.

The North East club are rumoured to have improved their offer to Leeds to 1.5 million today after seeing bids of 1 million and 1.25 million turned down.

The 26 year old turned down the offer of a new contract at Elland Road last summer and he was instantly placed on the transfer list by the club.

This was retracted soon afterwards and boss Simon Grayson stated that the star striker would be going nowhere until the end of the season.

Beckford`s appeal to clubs has continued to grow with him continuing to find the back of the net this season.

On Sunday he came to the attention of the nation when he scored the only goal in Leeds 1-0 shock FA Cup win at Manchester United.

That goal took his tally for the season to 20 already, and it`s the third season in a row he`s reach the milestone for Leeds.
