LUFC Hughton confirms Beckford interest

Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton has admitted he`s interested in taking Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford to Newcastle.

Speaking in the Sunderland Echo, Hughton said 'Jermaine Beckford is one of a few players that will of course be of interest to us".

The transfer window re opens in the next seven days and a number of clubs are sure to show an interest in Leeds leading goalscorer.

The free scoring striker has now scored 73 goals for Leeds in just two and a half seasons.

The 26 year old was placed on the transfer list in the summer after snubbing an improved contract from Leeds.

Beckford was taken of the transfer list before the season started and Leeds boss Simon Grayson and Chairman Ken Bates have continuously reiterated that they are willing to gamble and see him leave for nothing in the summer if it helps Leeds to promotion.

The former Wealdstone player had a public fall out with Grayson recently when he refused to shake the bosses hand after being substituted against Southampton and stormed straight down the tunnel.

Beckford apologised to Grayson when returning to training on the Monday and he`s responded by scoring four goals in his last two games.

We are not going to get much for Beckford, which club will splash out a lot of cash when he can leave on a free in the summer. If he does go in January you can bet it will be for an undisclosed fee the same as Delph.

Lots of clubs will splash cash if they believe it will get them promoted from the CCC to the cash cow that is the Premiership or vice versa. The big question is how much do Leeds see the value of Beckford firing us into the CCC and how will Becks react if he know we have blocked moves to Newcastle, Blackburn, Bolton etc that would see his wages explode.

He will never find a bigger club than leeds.we have also seen beckford week in week out at leeds, we all know he is nowhere near prem quality which is where he would play cause they will go up.will be a bad move for becks.his first touch and dribblelin ain't good enough.becks with gradels first touch then maybe

I thought the Geordies were skint!

Bates will can tell the Geordies to get *****ed. He's going nowhere in Jan and i think he knows where we are going. He had the chance to go in the summer and when we get promoted im sure he'll sign a contract..

He didn't have the chance to leave in the summer, Leeds kept turning down any approach for him.
dazza71
Keep turning them down, how much will it cost to replace him and what contract would we have to offer.

Come back with a proper bid, typical barcodes wanting something for nothing!
