Leeds United guaranteed top spot on Christmas Day on Saturday and that bodes well for the rest of the season.
Since the turn of the century, seven of the ten sides who were top on Christmas Day went on to gain promotion.
Four have gone on to win the Division and two of the sides who were second at the time, who were either behind just on goal difference or had games in hand also went on to win the title.
No side as ever failed to make the play offs, but let us not go down that avenue!
Leeds are the first side since Wigan Athletic in the 2002/03 season to reach the 50 point mark by Christmas Day and they have achieved it by playing one fewer games.
Saturday`s win was Leeds fifteenth win of the season in twenty-one games and they have suffered just the one defeat at Millwall back in October.
What makes the achievement even more remarkable is it`s Leeds thirtieth game already this season in all competitions and their seventh in twenty days.
Leeds are now four points clear at the top and still have a game in hand on their nearest rivals.
Now let`s look forward to the second half of the season and hopefully automatic promotion back to the Championship at the end of it.
