LUFC Leeds v Darlington preview

Leeds face Darlington in the Second round of the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy at Elland Road on Tuesday night.

Form

Leeds

The Whites have drawn their last two home games in the League against Carlisle and Charlton both in the last week.

Leeds are currently three points clear at the top of League One and are the only unbeaten side still remaining in the Football League this season after eleven games.

Darlington

The Quakers are currently bottom of League Two with only two draws to show from their opening eleven league games.

Last time out they lost 1-0 at home against Macclesfield Town.

So far on their travels this season they have drawn one and lost four.

Their only victory in any competition was in the first round of this competition when they defeated Lincoln City at home 1-0.

History

The two clubs have only ever met four times in their history with two of those coming in the past three seasons.

Darlington are unbeaten in their only previous visit to Elland Road.

They have already clashed this season in the first round of the Carling Cup at Darlington, Leeds won 1-0 thanks to an early second half goal from Enoch Showunmi.

They met in this competition during the 2007/08 season once again at Darlington and once again Leeds won by a solitary Paul Huntington goal.

Their only other two meetings came in the 1996/97 League Cup when Darlington earned a shock 2-2 draw at Elland Road before Leeds won the return leg 2-0.

I think Leeds might put out a reserve side with all the injuries and tired legs which makes Darlington's odds of 15/16-1 very interesting.

I think you are probably right but I expect four or five first teamers to make up the core of the side as we dont have another game for two weeks. No chance of players like Beckford being risked but a few of the longer term injury victims may get a run out like White and Parker. I am going but cant get excited about it.

i'd like for us to win, but on the other hand i'd hate for the paint cup to give us situation where we have lots of games in a short time down the track... wouldn't want it to become distracting when it comes crunch time in the league
