Leeds travel to Southend on Friday night knowing a point will be enough to put them top for at least 19 hours.
The Shrimpers have made a steady start to the season, they drew their first four league games before losing 2-1 at Swindon.
Last weekend they beat Leyton Orient 3-1 at Roots Hall.
They are currently in twelfth place with seven points from six games.
A win for Leeds would set a new club record of ten consecutive league wins.
On Saturday, they broke two long standing club records when they recorded their eight straight win in all competitions this season and also their fourteenth straight home league win.
The two clubs path`s have only ever crossed seven times both home and away in their histories, all of them have come since 2006.
At Roots Hall, Leeds are still looking for their first victory having drawn one and lost two.
When the two clubs met in Essex last season, a goal from ex Leeds defender Dan Harding was enough to earn Southend all three points.
