LUFC Darlington v Leeds Vital Preview

Leeds travel to League Two Darlington for a first round Carling Cup clash this evening live on Sky Sports.

Form

Darlington
Darlington started the season with a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Aldershot.

In their last six home games of last season they won 1, drew 2 and lost 3.

In last seasons competition they went out rather unlikely in the second round. Championship side Watford beat them 2-1 with the winning goal scored with only four minutes of extra time remaining.

Leeds
Leeds started the season with a 2-1 home win against Exeter City, Jermaine Beckford was again the hero scoring both goals with the winner in the 88th minute.

In Leeds last six away games of last season they won 3, drew 1 and lost 2.

The Whites went out in the fourth round last season away at Championship side Derby County 2-1.
In last years first round they beat Chester City 5-2 away, a game which was also shown live on Sky Sports.

History

The two clubs have only ever met three times in their history, all in cup competitions.

They have met in the League Cup before in 1996/97 when Darlington held Leeds to a 2-2 draw at Elland Road in the First Leg and had high hopes of a cup shock against their Premiership opposition.

Leeds made no mistake in the second leg at The Feethams winning 2-0.

They met as recently as 2007 in a Johnstone`s Paint Trophy clash which was also shown live on Sky, Paul Huntington scored the only goal of the game to give Leeds a 1-0 victory.

I will be backing Huntington again tonight, I backed him at 33/1 in the JPT in 2007 and also Leeds to win 1-0, two singles and a double, bet cost 12 and I won nearly 500.

I have bet Leeds to win 3-1 and for Windass to score the first goal. He seems to make a habit of scoring on big occasions and this will be big for Darlo. Interesting they played 11 debutants on saturday !!!. Three weeks ago they nly had 2 players.

I hope Grella gets a run out maybe he will I cant see Grayson risking Beckford for this one...I would go with Becchio and I hope Grella up front (Danger) at the back with Lubo and Sheehan hopefully Higgs is between the sticks...MOT!
