LUFC Minutes applause for Sir Bobby Robson

The Football League has announced that there will be a minute`s applause across the League on the opening weekend of the season for Sir Bobby Robson who died today.

Sir Bobby died after a long fight against cancer at the age of 76 and players will also wear black armbands as a tribute.

Robson enjoyed a very successful management career with Ipswich Town, PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona, he finished his managerial career at his beloved Newcastle United.

Sir Bobby also managed the England national side for eight years between 1982-1990 and was very unlucky to not lead England to at least one World Cup final reaching the Quarter Finals in 1986 when the 'hand of god` and Argentina defeated them 2-1. They then went one step further in 1990 before agonisingly losing out on penalties to Germany.

Sir Bobby was a popular character that the game will sorely miss.
