LUFC Leeds earn draw at Newcastle

Leeds travelled to Newcastle for a pre season friendly tonight continuing their build up for the new season.

Simon Grayson named a very strong side which could quite easily being his starting eleven against Exeter on the opening day of the season.

Leeds best efforts fell to Robert Snodgrass and Jermaine Beckford in the first half whilst at the other end Shane Higgs continued to impress in the Leeds goal making a world class save from Ryan Taylor shortly before half time.

Sebastian Bassong had Newcastle`s first effort of the second half but put his header wide of the target.
Ryan Taylor then went closer for the hosts but his effort hit the crossbar.

Leeds were also making chances and Beckford had a couple of efforts saved by Harper in the Toon goal.

A number of substitutes were made around the hour mark by both sides, Ankergren, Michalik and Hughes replaced Higgs, Kisnorbo and Snodgrass.

Leeds made more changes with twenty minutes remaining, Prutton, Robinson and Grella replaced Howson, Johnson and Becchio has Grayson was once again giving his squad a run out.

Coloccinni missed a good chance to put Newcastle ahead but blazed over when in a good position.

Robinson had a shot that took a deflection and went for a corner. From the resulting corner Michalik`s header was met by Beckford whose own header was saved by Krul.

Mike Grella then made a bit of space for himself and his shot took a deflection for another corner to Leeds.

Beckford had a late chance but his effort took a deflection and went straight into the arms of Krul.

A well deserved draw for Leeds and they now face just one more pre season game at Burnley on Saturday before the new season begins.

Another good pre season performance, surely Higgs has done enough to be starting against Exeter.

Smith got some stick tonight!

A good result and a stiff test for our defence against real pace for once. Higgs is looking better and better and Kisnorbo looks a good addition. Crowe seemed to get the run around for a while but settled down as the match wore on and didnt resort to desperate tackles. All in all our three new men are looking good despite our previous reservations.
