LUFC - Show backs Grella to come good

Enoch Showunmi is backing his fellow Leeds United striker Mike Grella to start finding the back of the net on a regular basis.

Showunmi talking on the official website said "As soon as he scores that first goal I`m sure they will fly in".

American Grella joined Leeds in January last season when impressing during a trail period with the club.

In his first outing for the reserves he scored a hat trick against Barnsley and followed that up with two more against Grimsby Town in his next outing.

With Jermaine Beckford and Luciano Becchio playing so well in attack, Grella found it hard to break into the first team and had to do with a handful of cameo appearances in the final few minutes of games.

He went on to make 12 substitute appearances for Leeds last season without scoring, he`s been enjoying a good run out so far in pre season but still hasn`t scored his first senior team goal although playing well.

Showunmi continued "He`s been a bit unlucky in pre season, I`m sure he will go out and score a hat trick against somebody very soon".

The 22 year old knows it`s going to be hard breaking into the first team with Beckford and Becchio playing so well, he now he faces more competition from the fit again Showunmi and the return to the club of Tresor Kandol.

Grella whose contract runs out at the end of this season will be hoping to impress when given the chance.

I can't see him getting much more of a chance this season. I think Showunmi is right though, a goal will do him the world of good.

its the same with every striker and Totti went threw a spell like this a few years back so it shows it can happen to anyone...He just needs to get more of a strikers instinct and he will be on his way
Gromjo
I think if he gets 20 Mins in some gamrs' he will be one good player for the future...
