LUFC - Beckford taken off transfer list

Leeds United have removed Jermaine Beckford from the transfer list.

The 34 goal top scorer from last season was placed on the transfer list at the end of last season after failing to agree terms on a new contract with the club.

Beckford still has one year left on his current contract so could still run down the final year of his contract and leave on a free next summer.

A number of clubs have been reported to have shown an interest in the striker with the club admitting to turning down two offers for him.

Newcastle and Sheffield United have been rumoured to be leading the chase for his signature.

Ken Bates has decided after discussion with Leeds boss Simon Grayson to take Beckford off the transfer list, speaking on Yorkshire Radio Bates said "We`re quite happy to keep him, he`s under contract until the end of the season, and we`re looking forward to him playing his part in getting us promoted this season".

I don't think this changes anything at all, if the club want to get money for him then he's got to leave before the end of next season. The only thing this shows to me is Bates has taken him off the transfer list so that he can probably get a few more quid for him by saying he doesn't want to sell him.

Good. Hearing all the replacments was scaring me and none of them were good enough to fill his shoes.

it is also a point for Bates in the argument if he cares about the club or not... Your right though Dazza...It is just so he can add a couple of numbers to his price...
Gromjo
I think we need to look at this as a positive. He has 'agreed' to come off the transfer list with Grayson and he looks to have been committed in his two matches to date. There is nothing to say he wont re-sign if we get into the CCC

We'll keep our money in our pocket then, eh!

Beckford didn't have to agree to anything, he's got a year of his contract left and it's still upto Leeds United what they do with him, whether he's o the transfer list or not.
dazza71
Surely good news for you boys!

yeah not too bad...I think we were in hope that Grayson had another striker lined up if he did go but its good that he hasn't....Hopefully now he will sign with us next Summer and we are being promoted.....Hopefully!
Gromjo
