Douglas the latest to join a League One club

Former Leeds United midfielder Jonathan Douglas has joined fellow League One side Swindon Town.

Douglas who was released at the end of the season has joined the robins on a free transfer.

He`s become the second Leeds player who was released in the summer to join the Wiltshire club after keeper David Lucas joined them in June.

The news comes soon after another released Leeds player Frazer Richardson joined another League One club Charlton Athletic.

I think its worrying when we have had to release players like Douglas and Richardson because we cannot afford their wages when our offers have been made to them on a new contract, yet Charlton and Swindon can!

Im not sure really why Grayson saw Douglas as deadwood as he was a good utility plsyer...Not devestated that he left either though...

a good signing for them really

not jus because im irish but he was atleast good enough as a squad player...maybe if we bring in a few players we`ll understand why he was let go..

The likely reason for Douglas and Richardson is that they were on 'Championship' wages, as remnants of the side that was relegated. I can't think of any other players that would be (even Casper left and came back under a new contract), so it's quite conceivable that they were on double the amount of the next highest earners in the rest of the squad. We might have been paying them say 8k/week, League 1 top wages may be 4k/week, and we offered them a new deal at say 4k. If Charlton then comes in at 4.5k, it's a done deal...
