LUFC - Higgs wants starting place

Leeds newest recruit goalkeeper Shane Higgs can`t wait to start battling for the number one shirt at Elland Road.

Higgs who signed on Friday says the decision to join the Whites was a 'no brainer` and hasn`t signed for the club just to warm the bench acting as cover for Casper Ankergren.

The 32 year old has been impressive for Cheltenham during his stay at the Robins and has won the Player of the Year twice in 2006/07 and 2007/08 whilst firstly helping the club win promotion from League Two and then surviving relegation from League One the following season.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post Higgs said 'I've played a lot of football at League One level and I want to push Casper.'

Higgs played over 200 games during a ten year career at Cheltenham and his form was so good that eventual Championship champions Wolverhampton Wanderers took him on loan for six month`s last season.

With Wayne Hennessey in tremendous form for Wolves Higgs failed to break into the first team during his stay.

Leeds fans will be delighted to see an experienced goalkeeper pushing for a starting place between the sticks in the coming season.
