Continuing with the review of the season Leeds went into October full of confidence.
Unfortunately this was the month that was really going to reveal the team`s inability to defend and win away from home.
The first game of the month was a trip to Peterborough who had made a decent start to the season since gaining promotion from League Two the previous season.
A rather lacklustre performance from the Whites saw them concede two goals in the second half and come away with nothing in a 2-0 defeat.
Leeds were quickly back in action on the Tuesday night, this time in a Johnstone`s Paint Trophy tie at Rotherham.
Leeds made wholesale changes from the team that lost at Peterborough at the weekend and they was deservedly dumped out of the competition going down 4-2 to there League Two opponents.
Goals for Jon Howson and Enoch Showunmi couldn`t hide a disappointing result for Leeds.
The Whites got back to winning ways on their return to Elland Road and made it five wins in a row with a comprehensive 3-1 win over Brighton, Luciano Becchio gave Leeds the lead just before half time and a second half brace from Jermaine Beckford ensured the points.
Leeds were back on their travels the following week and once again capitulated at the back after taking the lead at Millwall.
Becchio made it two in two with a long range effort to put Leeds in front but then some poor defending allowed Millwall to take control of the game. David Martin equalised soon after Becchio`s opener and two second half goals by Neil Harris ensured the points went to the London club.
Whilst Leeds were proving to be poor away from home their home form continued to be impressive, two home wins in the space of a week made it seven wins in a row on home soil.
First up was a hard fought win over Leyton Orient on the Tuesday night.
Leeds fell behind just past the half hour but were soon level thanks to an own goal, Leeds took all three points thanks to a Becchio goal on the stroke of half time.
Leeds welcomed Walsall on the Saturday and won comprehensively 3-0.
Luciano Becchio made it four in four in the first minute of the second half, Fabian Delph`s growing reputation continued to grow and the young midfielder scored two long range efforts to seal the Leeds victory.
The last game of the month was a trip to Southend and once again Leeds failed to come away with anything from an away fixture.
Former Leeds defender Dan Harding curled in a free kick from the edge of the area to give the Shrimpers all three points.
A mixed month for Leeds with their home form being rock solid whilst away the defence played like strangers and we came away with four straight defeats.
Even though it was a mixed month, Leeds found themselves still in third place three points behind Scunthorpe and Millwall.
The November review will follow next week when the wheels really do start to come off for boss Gary McAllister with the month finishing with an embarrassing FA Cup exit.
