LUFC - Beckford transfer listed

Leeds United have transfer listed leading marksman Jermaine Beckford after he declined the offer of a new three year contract.

The 25 year old who scored 34 goals last season still has twelve months left on his current contract.

Leeds have said though that they will not sell him unless they receive an appropriate bid that matches their value of the player.

Beckford will still be part of boss Simon Grayson`s plans next year if this does not happen.

Coventry City have already been linked with Beckford and this news is bound to alert a few more clubs who will be interested in his signature.

he cant play in big games anyway, hopefully get a dcent price for him and bring in someone with a better temperment and more experience

Its not surprising news to me, the way his agents been speaking for the last few weeks it was obviuos he was trying to alert clubs to his availability. I'm glad the club haven't given in to his wage demands, we can never go down that road again no matter who they are. I'm more disappointed about the fact Sodje could be signing for Bristol City!! I have every faith in Simon Grayson bringing in a striker who will score goals for Leeds. One player doesn't make a team and lets be honest he may have scored 34 goals but he was not a team player. I do worry that he may rot at Leeds for twelve months then leave on a free, lets get rid before pre season training starts again. Personally I have always liked Beckford and have stuck up for him on this site when others were questioning his commitment, he owes us no loyalty whatsoever, we was willing to off load him to Scunthorpe two years ago had the paid a few grand more. If you've played your last game for Leeds, thanks for everything, not many players can score at an average of less than every two games. So which Blackpool striker will Grayson sign first?!

Sad, but I could see it coming. Let's hope other teams realise this is not another Leeds fire sale and we receive appropriate money. He must be worth in excess of a million, perhaps closer to 2. It certainly sends the right message to other players; we will not be held to ranson, and good on Bates, Harvey and Grayson for reinforcing this. Money may talk, but how many would honestly prefer to play Championship football at Coventry? - Beckford for the Toon, perhaps....?

Having said that, Vital_Newcastle are talking 5 Million. Sell, Sell!! Although having studied their accounts for last year, where they'll find 5 million is anyone's guess. And to echo Dazza, if Beckford has played his last game, many thanks to him for his performances in a Leeds shirt.

I think we should be asking a minimum of 4 million, 54 goals in 98 appearances must make him hot property. I can't see him scoring as many in The Championship, cannot see clubs playing to all his strength's only, like we have and if its Newcastle he goes to that looks like a recipe for disaster.

I can't think of any player in the last 5 years that has gone to Newcastle and come out of it with a better reputation...

I agree with leeds_til_I_die. Beckford has scored quite a few goals-albeit against average opposition. They say a great goalscorer can score goals at any level against any opposition and on any occasion but I think Millwall gave everyone a masterclass on how to nullify him. How long before most other teams work out how to? We want a striker with more nous and a better temperament who turns up at big games. And remember, if it wasn`t for LUFC Jermaine Beckford would still be playing non-league football. Thanks for the ride Becks. At times it was unreal. But time for you to leave, maybe never to be heard of again....

I've seen them come & i've seen them go & Leeds will still be here when they've all retired. Like newcastle you'll see amass exoudes E:G Vaduka,Smithy In stead of figthing & putting there team & fans first , before wages for once. Its the player on the pitch that keeps us were we are. LOYALTY means something to LEEDS FAITHFUL. SHOULD THEY STAY & FIGHT OR FLEE LIKE COWARDS

You'll adequately replace Beckford no problems.

If Becks goes..I wish him well and thanks for a great season....

As a potenial buyer I'd worry about his 'going missing' when needed. But still a guy I'd take the risk and have in my side.
APG_STFC
good. lazy and wrong attitude. He'll never get the same support he had at leeds
