Monthly review: Leeds building momentum
Leeds entered the month of April in great form after an impressive March which had seen them climb into the top six, sitting healthily in fifth place with a five point advantage and a game in hand on seventh place.
They were ten points behind second place Peterborough United with a game in hand so hadn`t given up on automatic promotion although the chances were looking slim with Peterborough showing no sign of slipping up.
Jermaine Beckford wins the fans PFA Player of the month for March after an impressive month whish saw him score six goals in five games.
Leeds are giving a trial to Nigerian Babajide Ogunbiyi, the defender has played in the Olympics for his country and also the American MSL.
The club say that long term injured Paul Huntington is making good progress and could return to the side before the end of the season.
Leeds continue their great form, this time away at Colchester.
Luciano Becchio scores the only goal of the game to maintain their strong position in the Play off positions.
The club confirm that the East Stand upper tier will open for the last home game of the season against Northampton Town. Leeds currently has the highest attendance in the Football League this season and expects to beat it in this game.
Leeds are staying down South with a trip to Leyton Orient on Tuesday night. Boss Simon Grayson sees it as a great chance for the squad to bond and they all go to watch 'The Damned United` a film based on the short stay at Elland Road of Brian Clough.
The Physio is busy with Robert Snodgrass, Neil Kilkenny and Richard Naylor picking up knocks at Colchester and are all doubtful for the Orient trip.
Defender Alan Sheehan who was on loan at Crewe Alexandra returns to Leeds after suffering an injury at Swindon Town which rules him out for the rest of the season.
Sheehan must dislike Swindon`s County Ground has he was sent off for Leeds in the first ten minutes there earlier in the season.
Both Jermaine Beckford and Sam Sodje are ruled out of the trip to Orient with injuries whilst Kilkenny, Snodgrass and Naylor all play.
Leeds throw away a two goal lead against ten men and can only draw which just about ends any realistic hope of reaching second place.
Fabian Delph is booked in the same game and will now serve a two match suspension for picking up his tenth yellow card of the season.
Leeds and Blackpool resolve the matter regarding Simon Grayson`s appointment at the club, no figures are mention but both clubs say they are happy with the outcome.
The Whites make it nine home wins in a row when Jon Howson scores the only goal of the game against Stockport to give them all three points.
Luciano Becchio is doubtful ahead of the Easter Monday clash at Leicester after coming off injured in the Stockport game. Leeds are hopeful that Jermaine Beckford will return to the team after his recent injury.
Leeds lose in the dying seconds at Leicester City and their long unbeaten run comes to an end.
Jermaine Beckford wins the fans Player of the Year award at the clubs award dinner just beating Robert Snodgrass to the award.
Fabian Delph is the big winner taking three awards, he walked away with the Fans Young Player of the Year, Goal of the season for his goal at Brighton and the Players Player of the Year.
Leeds make it ten home wins in a row with a 3-1 win over fellow Play off hopefuls Tranmere Rovers.
The win almost guarantees Leeds a play off place with Tranmere six points behind with two goals remaining and a far inferior goal difference.
Leeds play off spot is secured in midweek when Scunthorpe United can only draw at Northampton Town.
Robert Snodgrass is ruled out of the weekend game at Hartlepool United with an ankle injury, the club are hopeful he will be back the following week for the final game of the season against Northampton.
Loan defender Sam Sodje`s loan deal as been extended o include the Play offs although parent club Reading who are also involved in the Play offs in the Championship include a 24 hour recall clause in the contract.
Leeds finish the final fixture of the month with another away win and another clean sheet with a 1-0 victory at Hartlepool United. They are now closing in on third and fourth place with only one game to go.
Fabian Delph is the only member of the Leeds squad to be named in the PFA League One team of the year, champions Leicester have the most representatives with three of their squad making the side.
The reserves wrap up the totesport.com East Division title with a 1-0 victory over Rotherham United.
Leeds now know they will be playing either Millwall or MK Dons in the Play offs after the Dons win at Northampton.
The month ends with Leeds having one final league game left against Northampton Town.
Lets hope that May`s review will be a happy one with Leeds winning promotion to the Championship on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Wembley.
