LUFC - Leeds turn down defender option

Leeds United have decided not to offer veteran defender Darren Powell a contract after his short stay.

33 year old Powell was released by Derby County in January and was given a chance by Leeds to resurrect his career with a two week trial.

Powell played in two games for the Whites during his stay but doesn`t seem quite up to the fitness Grayson was looking for, speaking on the official site Grayson said: 'We looked closely at Darren. He trained well and had the experience side of it, but we need someone who could step straight up if needed and Darren may be a couple of weeks away.'

I'm glad we haven't got him, we may be bad at the back but surely we can get someone who is not 33 and been without a club since January. He's always been injured throughout his career.

Why isnt a player trying to get a contract fit. There must have been some games he could have played in as well as training ???? He looked heavy so maybe too many chips ????

I guess it's back to the drawing board then. Lets hope he's going to continue looking for defenders.

Why not try and get Duberry back? Hes a strong defender who has a lot of experience and with previous time at Leeds he knows the club well. Could be a potential?
