LUFC - Bates delighted to hold onto Delph

Ken Bates was a delighted man after managing to fend of advances from a number of Premiership clubs for Leeds main asset Fabian Delph during the transfer window.

Since the end of December almost every Premiership club at some stage has been linked with the Leeds youngster and many fans were expecting the worst even though Bates had assured them he would not be sold at any price.

Speaking on the official website Bates said "I said if the fans support us and if we didn`t have to sell him we wouldn`t, and we haven`t. The fans are backing us to the hilt, and I hope they are reassured by that"

Delph has just picked up his League One player of the month award for the second time this season and Bates sees him having a long future at the club, continuing Bates said "The last time I looked at his contract it was until 2012."

Bates is now expecting the same press coverage regarding Delph once the season ends, in his usual flippant manner Bates said "Why should he go this summer? Or the summer after that?"
