LUFC - Player ratings v Southend United

Regular Vital Leeds contributor Tiny T once again gives us his player ratings for the team against Southend United.

Ankergren 7
Little to do for long periods, stunning double save kept the clean sheet for the team.

Hughes 4
Distribution poor and cannot defend, thank god we played a team who couldn't play on the weak link.

Naylor 7
Another composed display and a goal, untroubled and well organised in defence please let`s keep him.

Marques 7
Towering header for the first goal and another composed defensive display, what a difference Naylor makes to Rui, nearly back to his best.

Dickinson 6
Composed in defence but gets a nosebleed when he ventures over the half way line.

Robinson 7
Tricky and stylish but the final ball and decision making at times are poor.

Douglas 7 Star man
Followed on from Saturday with another good display.

Delph 6
Struggled to have an impact when Southend went to a five man midfield.

Johnson 7
Two assists with good balls into the middle and got stuck in, another whose final ball was poor.

Trundle 6
The ball spent too much time in the air for him to use his silky skills, but linked well with Beckford.

Beckford 6
Should have added to his seasons tally in the second half, sloppy and unlucky with his finishing.

Substitutes:

Snodgrass 5
Did nothing much during his spell on the pitch.

Howson 6
One or two good challenges and a shot charged down, needs more time on the pitch.

Becchio
Little time to have any influence though nearly had the third with a header.

Leeds had the game won after 11 minutes and should have gone on to score more as Southend are a poor side.

Leeds lacked control with too many flicks and woeful passing, they needed to keep the ball and be more patient with the final ball and everything seemed rushed.
Important thing was that we gained the three points gaining ground on the sides above and putting further ground between us and the teams below us.

Onward to Walsall next, lets hope for three more points.

Thanks Tiny for your frank and honest assessment on the players.

Some poor ratings!! From the kop I saw: Sure we could and will do better but 3 points clean sheet 3 win lads did a great job. Struggling opposition made for scrappy poor quality game. No extra points for racking up the score. Too harsh as: Casper kept a lean sheet & produced a world class stop in the 2nd half coming out & getting to shot of rebound? thats a very good nights work. Dickenson by his admission in the programme notes is there to defend, ''and give it to those who try to score against us'' Brick***** house and an essential solid back we have missed all season. who cars if he does not go forward he's there to defend, after the crap run in November be thankfull, others should be doing the attacking. Naylor was outstanding, commanding, & scored as the Captain. Snodgrass did have an impact, lively, and had a fantastic shot from nothing, a tight angle, just 6inches over the bar. Please acknowledge the result, achivement & imrovement and support the team. crowd rate a 10 - 20,000 on Tuesday for regular fixture, and Southend literally only sold a 153 tickets, magnificent turnout!

Great report, The next two games will tell us whether we are serious promotion contenders, we have been far too inconsistent on our travels so far this season.
