LUFC - Beckford at the double

Leeds got their promotion challenge back on track with a well earned victory over fellow promotion hopefuls Peterborough United at Elland Road, their first at home since the end of November.

The big news before kick off was that on loan player Richard Naylor was given the captains armband and Jermaine Beckford returned to the substitute`s bench after missing the last few games through injury.

In a lively first half both sides had chances to take the lead, Boyd forced Ankergren into two tremendous save and at the other end Lewis produced two excellent saves to keep out Robinson.

Trundle almost gave Leeds the lead just before half time but his glancing header went wide.

Peterborough started brightly in the second half and the always dangerous Boyd shot over the bar when in a good position.

Simon Grayson made his first move close to the hour and brought on top scorer Jermaine Beckford to replace Becchio.

Beckford made an instant impact and after a Johnson`s free kick the keeper could only be parry the ball out to Beckford who was there to put Leeds ahead and score his 20th goal of the season.

Beckford double the lead within ten minutes when he coolly finished after being put through by Trundle.

Just when Leeds were contemplating keeping their first home clean sheet in seven attempts Peterborough got back into the game with ten minutes remaining, Boyd`s header hit the cross bar and Mackail - Smith was there to follow up.

That gave Leeds ten minutes to hang on to a crucial win, the fourth official put up four minutes of stoppage time to give Leeds more nervous moments, these were soon eased when Howson scored Leeds third to clinch the victory.

Its Leeds first back to back league wins since October, the victory moves Leeds back up to seventh place.

Leeds are soon back in action again when entertaining Southend United on Tuesday night.

What a game Naylor had and what a difference to the whole defence (even Casper looked good). Hope he stays. Most confident I have felt after a match for months. Graysons 'back to basics' seems to be paying off

Also great to see Beckford back and straight in the goals. Grayson must surely bring in Naylor on a full time basis!

Naylor MotM for me,the defence was different again. I Think all todays loan players played well & fitted in well & complimented Beckford well. Not to forget the LEEDS faithful you got behind the lads all the way well done.

Very bold decision by Grayson to make Naylor captain, I hope this means we are going to keep him.

Great result.Naylor was a class act great move to make him captain thats what we need someone who will boss the defence about and shout also being a leeds fan he will always give this team 200% no disrespect to richardson but he is not captain material sorry just being honest good player for us but thats it, the only thing i will worry about is when the loans are up we will lose trindle and dickinson hope we can sign naylor but we will lose 2 players who have made a big impact on the team lets hope we can extend there loans until end of season...but great result lads lets go get southend.....MOT

I think we may see another defender come in before the window closes to replace Dickinson, I think Naylor will stay, with Beckford and Becchio back in tandem up front, Johnson and Robinson can fill the wide roles.

Great finishes, lets hope for a run of goals now from him.

It was so worth waiting for Becks return....:-)...The PUSH ONWARDS AND UPWARDS is BACK....

Great result and a typical Ferguson reaction in defeat! I've seen the highlights on LUTV and listened live. The big plus appears to be the defence and the loan signings have been inspired, not only in the quality of their performances but in the way they are bringing the best out of players who were lacking in confidence until very recently....Now, let's have the shrimpers!
