'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Palace Pulled The Plug On Beckford

It was ironic that new signing Jermaine Beckford should make his Leeds debut against Crystal Palace because he had a trial at Selhurst Park and the London club wanted to sign him.

However, Bob Dowie, Director of Football at Crystal Palace, said the club felt it was a risk to take him for the money his club wanted for him.

Dowie: 'We didn't do a deal because we thought the money got too ridiculous. We got him in and we could have done a deal but we chose not to.

'It went from being a reasonable risk into unreasonable risk. We wish him all the best though, he's a nice lad.'
