LUFC - Leeds sign defender at last

Leeds have at last strengthened their frail backline with the capture of Ipswich Town defender Richard Naylor.

Unfortunately it`s only on a one month loan deal when we desperately need to strengthen for the rest of the season and not just a month.

The 31 year old is Leeds born and a life long Leeds United fan and he jumped at the chance to join the Whites.

Naylor has spent twelve years at Portman Road having progressed through their academy system and he`s made over 300 appearances for the Tractor boys, his contract runs out at the club at the end of the season.

The former striker switched to a central defensive role under ex Ipswich manager Joe Royle early this century, he also had short loan spells at Millwall and Barnsley in 2002.

His nicknames at Ipswich were either 'Bam Bam' or 'Psycho' so he should fit in quite well at Leeds!

Leeds have also been widely linked today with Derby County central defender Claude Davis.

It would have been better if it was for the rest of the season.

For a month, whats the point?!

Agree YP, shouldn't we also be looking for younger players and not become Dads Army again like under useless Blackwell.

A couple of things: We don't need to expand an already big squad with players who may not fit in. Even great players don't always fit at a new club. One month (5 games?) will allow Grayson to assess if the new defenders will improve what we have (highly likely), and I'd be surprised if there's not a purchase option built into the loan deals....incidentally, my Ipswich season ticket holder mate reckons naylor is just what we need....and regarding the Dad's Army tag, once we get out of League 1, the whole squad may change. To get out of League 1 appears to need short term planning and a tight plan, not necessarily a team of kids.

I agree with what your saying Amsterdam i heard there is a buy clause in the loan deal or a chance to extend the loan until the end of season, Naylor is just what we need strong aggresive player who will not get knocked of the ball and a player who supports leeds at last a defender who will put the shirt on and wear it with pride he will give his all for the cause,
