'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Grayson still thinks we can make play offs!

Simon Grayson still thinks that Leeds can make the play offs this season even after Saturday`s dismal home defeat against Carlisle United.

Saturday`s defeat was Grayson`s first loss since taking over at Leeds and they are now down to tenth place, five points outside the play offs.

That doesn`t sound too much but the worrying statistics are that Leeds have only taken ten points from their last ten league games, haven`t kept a clean sheet since November 1st (only four all season) and haven`t won at home since November 22nd (including three defeats in the last five games)

Leeds fans were optimistic that at the start of the transfer window quite a few players would be brought in, especially in the defensive areas. We are now nearly half way through the month and the only action we have seen so far was on Friday when midfielder Lee Trundle was brought in on a month`s loan from Bristol City.

Leeds have been linked with a number of players, the latest being central defender Alex Bruce from Ipswich Town and Grayson said after the Carlisle game that he is confident of bringing in a defender before the Brighton game next Saturday.

Speaking about the defence against Carlisle on LUTV Grayson said 'The players have proved they have the ability. They kept a lot of clean sheets last season but are making basic individual errors at the moment and you can't do that, no matter what level you are playing at".

I wouldn`t mind if it was the odd individual error by the odd player each game, it`s been week in week out by them all this season and unless the defence is strengthened with at least two defenders and possibly a keeper in January we can look forward to league one again next season.

Unless something is done with the defence very quickly then we might need to start looking over our shoulders.

We are leaderless and rudderless on the field at the moment and I cant see a genuine candidate with Douglas out of form. Carlisle are happy to play an in form 20 year old loanee in goal while our only in form young keeper is on loan at Barrow getting rave reviews !!!
erni
