LUFC - Leeds sign defender

Leeds have finally started to strengthen their defence today with the signing of French defender Mansour Assoumani on a one month contract.

25 year old Assoumani has been having a trial at Leeds and scored in this week`s reserve fixture against York City.

The big defender who recently had a trial at Championship side Sheffield United is available for Leeds clash at MK Dons on Saturday as he didn`t have a contract with any club allowing him to be signed outside the transfer window, Leeds have also received international clearance for the player.

Boss Gary McAllister has been impressed with what he`s seen so far, when speaking on the official website he said 'He's looked good in training and settled in well, he instantly comes into the reckoning for Saturday's game.'

He can play at either centre back or the right hand side of defence and will hopefully be able to bolster a Leeds back line who`ve only kept four clean sheets in the league all season.

He started his career with Montpellier in France in 2001 and stayed with them until 2006 when he moved on to FC Saarbrucken in Germany.

Let's hope he's decent, then again he can only be better than what we already have.

My thoughts exactly!

Saw him last night in the reserves and he looked decent and more agressive than our current centre backs (not difficult). Was not taken on in a trial with Sheff Utd last month !!(but there again Blackwell played Gregan and Butler at Centre back and put Kilgallon at left back so he probably has no eye for a centre back). Scored a good goal with a near post header and none of our current crop look like doing that. (scoring or getting a header under pressure). Looked decent at right back as well.

Drop Telfer and play him instead

At last macca is doing something about it, spoke to a couple of people who was at the reserve match and said he looked a good player very strong on the ball decent in the air not afraid to get stuck in and a eye for a goal, to be honest he cant do any worse than what we have got he stands 6ft 2in tall and is of a strong build lets hope he shows the rest off the muppets we have at leeds who call them selfs defenders how to do the job right think he will be a star for leeds a good signing for the club AT LAST....
