Toronto Sports Giants Plot Leeds United Takeover?

The owners of the NHL team Toronto Maple Leafs and NFL team the Toronto Raptors are believed to be looking into a takeover bid of League One side Leeds United.

The Daily Mirror have reported, with the story being subsequently copied in Canadian press that Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment are looking at Leeds United as a possible target for yet another North American takeover of an English football club.

MLSE president Richard Peddie and chief financial officer Ian Clarke reportidly visited England and spoke to officials from Southampton, Reading, as well as a possible meeting with representatives of Leeds United and Ken Bates.

Wikipedia states that Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. are worth an estimated $1.75billion. Their current sports portfolio include the crowd-pulling Toronto Maple Leafs Ice Hockey team, their minor league feeder team the Toronto Marlies, the Toronto Raptors American Football team and MLS newcomers Toronto F.C.

It has been suggested in the past that any potential promotion failure at the first attempt for Leeds United may prompt Chairman Ken Bates to sell the club, having re-purchased it in bizarre circumstances last summer.
