Swansea’s Robinson to Join Leeds United

Andy Robinson has agreed to depart promoted Swansea City to join Leeds United next season.

The midfielder was one of Swansea’s longest serving members, having joined the club following his release from Tranmere Rovers way back in the summer of 03 and chipped in with 10 goals this season for the League One Champions. With Leeds on the verge of a possible return to the Championship, alongside Swansea City (having started 15 points behind the Welsh club anyway), Robinson was interested in signing for the Elland Road club, however initially wished to wait until after the League One playoff final on Sunday before making his decision.

Swansea City however, had other ideas, forcing the player into making his mind up early. A club statement read:

“The club felt it was an unrealistic request and imposed a deadline of yesterday for Andy to make his mind up.

“This he did, subsequently deciding to move on.”

The player himself was delighted at the chance to join United:

“This was the toughest decision of my life, but it's right for me.

“I spoke to Roberto Martinez on Tuesday and told him of my decision. I didn't want this dragging on because I have the utmost respect for Roberto and for Swansea City.'

“I've played against Leeds and I know what a good team they are,” he added.

“I'm looking forward to Sunday, and I can't wait to get started there.”

Nice scoop boss ;)

Very good signing. Looks like Macca already has his mind set on players no matter which Division Leeds are in.

well done lads you have signed a decent league 1 player should fit in well next season how the once mighty Leeds (NOT) have fallen dealing in transfers for millions not so long ago now scraping bargain basement for free transfers theres only 1 Peter Risdale COME ON DONNY

He was a real crowd favourite at Swansea and he will be missed. We don't bemoan players leaving if they want to better themselves in a higher division i.e Lee Trundle or Sam Ricketts but I can't see what different a challenge Robbo will gain moving to Leeds. This means sadly that he is doing it purely for money which is a shame. Lets just hope you beat Donny or the lad will possibly regret his decision.

That wasn't a moan at Leeds so please lay off the abuse or it will make me cry. It was a moan at Robbo though. A very strange decision. He had the option of signing for Cardiff 2 years ago but didn't make the move. He'll be gutted if he remains in league 1.
