'If It's Football, It's Vital'

McAllister Proud of Leeds Team and Fans

Leeds United manager Gary McAllister has praised the players and the travelling support as Jonny Howson’s goals fired the Elland Road club all the way to Wembley.

Howson struck in the last minute to seal a 3-2 victory in the second leg of the League One playoff semi-final against Carlisle United at Brunton Park, adding to his earlier aggregate equaliser. McAllister was quick to lavish praise on the local hero:

“He's been an ever present since I arrived,' he told Leedsunited.com.

“He's a young man of great potential. We keep feeding him information and we're trying not to stifle him. We want him to progress as a footballer.

“And he couldn't have picked a better time to score!”

Turning his attention to the game as a whole Macca said:

“I thought about making changes and could have made three or four but I gave the same 11 a go.

“I wanted a reaction and that's the sort of reaction any manager in the world would have liked.

“The ugly side was missing on Monday, but when we had opportunities to pass it we did and we moved it around well.

“They were brave, got a result and it went exactly to plan.”

Attention now turns to the May 25th trip to Wembley, with the opponents undecided as Doncaster and Southend remain locked on a 0-0 going into their second leg match. McAllister, whilst celebratory for the moment knows that it will be soon time to get back to business:

“We move on again now,' he added. “Yes, we're slightly closer to the Championship, and I don't want to be a killjoy, but nothing has been achieved as yet.”

I don't remember booing him. I cast doubts (happy to admit if I'm wrong) whether he could get us promoted. Unlike Manure fans we aint fickle.

For once in my life I have to admit SLF is right. I said the same thing when he came back but nobody seemed to remember the fact he went to Coventry because they offered him more money! I will certainly say I didn't want him but he's slowly winning me over. One more win Macca and you can stay for a while!!

I for one i'm proud to have Macca as the Manager of Leeds United....Whatever happens at Wembley without you Macca we wouldn't have made it..Hope the team wins this for you as well as everyone else who worships LEEDS xx

Well said Tiny T, the lad has to be given a chance, as well as the manager. The bottom line is next season you will be back in the Championship.
