Playoff Semi Final Leg One: Leeds Reaction

Leeds boss Gary McAllister believes that the late Dougie Freedman goal is enough to keep his side well and truly in the League One playoff semi-final stage.

With Leeds set to travel to Cumbria on Thursday, it’s advantage Carlisle hoping that Keiren Westwood isn’t prepared to rescue once more, what could be called a somewhat fortunate smash and grab win.

Speaking to Leedsunited.com the boss said:

“The goal keeps us in the tie,' said McAllister. 'I felt even at 2-0 we would be capable of going up there and making them work hard for it, but this puts a different picture on the game.

“I said before it's a game of 180 minutes and I have a feeling it will go to the last minutes up there.'

“I've got to applaud my players for the effort,' said the boss. 'They kept going beyond the 90 minutes. At times we have to tighten up when are in possession.

“Our final ball wasn't there, but having said that their keeper was terrific. He's a keeper that's impressed a few people this season and he lived up to his billing.

“We got caught on a few counters, and some of their attacking play on the break was good. But in a open first half we did create chances as well and our final ball just wasn't as good as theirs.”

Thankfully away goals don’t count in the playoffs, so we go to Brunton Park ready to pounce!”

On anothe day we could have had three or four but for their keeper. We just need to sort the defence out because we will make chances.
