Marques Set for Leeds Utd Exit?

The club have announced that talks to extend the contract of Angolan international defender Rui Marques have been suspended.

It appears that Marques’ future may well lie elsewhere as the club admitted that there were differences of opinion in just about everything. The 30-year-old is out of contract in the summer, and with a number of higher divisions reportidly taking an interest, his future may well lie elsewhere.

The official club website stated today:

“The removal of contract extension discussions from the agenda will allow Rui to concentrate on winning his place back in the team after recovering from injury and then making a positive contribution as the club looks towards gaining promotion to the Championship.”

“The club had hoped that Rui's future would have been secured by now. However, the respective differences in valuation, influenced by alleged interest from clubs already in the Championship have seen us not achieve our aim.”

Read into that what you will, however I think should Leeds fail to gain promotion this season, or do not offer him enough money, he will be on his way to pastures new come the off-season.

He was always going to wait to see if we were going to pay him championship wages hope we keep him if we go up. He was never going to stay if we stay in 3rd division.

He will be a loss but no-one is irreplaceable

How many players stay when they have stalled on a new deal for so long?

If he`s all about the money then `fraid i don`t want him no matter how good he is. We`ve been down that road before and its a road to ruin!

people doesn't know anything, they just know what they read in the newspapers.I don't belive that Leeds has offered a good contract, good wages to rui, because in the end of 2006 leeds didn't want him anymore, and leeds said that he could leave the club.So don't you think that Rui was getting a big wage offer from leeds. If he didn't want to play for league one he wouldn't be in the club this season.I hope we can keep him for next season ,he's a good player, but if leave the club I wish him a good luck.
