'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Leeds United Midfielder Banned

Andy Hughes will now sit out two League One matches for being hit in the face by a football.

Hughes picked up his 10th yellow card of the season following the caution at Port Vale as Clive Penton adjudged (wrongly) that the former Norwich City man had handled the ball in the penalty area when in reality, he’d merely had a painful face-to-face discussion with one of Mitre’s finest.

To say controversial would be as big an understatement as suggesting that we don’t like Manchester United, and the midfield man was disappointed with the booking and suspension:

“The ball hit me in the face, and I couldn't see out of my eyes at first because it smashed against my nose. I'm absolutely devastated,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“I tried to tell him what had happened but he wouldn't listen to me. He said he had to stick with his linesman, and to me that's not good enough. Things like this could cost us.”

Manager Gary McAllister was similarly upset over the decision, he spoke to the official website, leedsunited.com:

“It wasn't a penalty, we saw the video straight after the game and it showed the ball hitting Hughesy in the face.

“There were no Port Vale players shouting for the penalty - if it'd have been a handball they'd have been asking for it.”

Hughes will now miss out the vital home ties against Walsall and Brighton as Leeds try to get their season back on track.

Doesn't sound like Mr Penton who booked the wrong man at Bristol two weeks ago, then in the same game booked a player twice and didn't send him off!!!!!!!!!

If that be the case, it doesn't sound like this Mr Penton will be in league football for too long!
